Health Center CSU
A career in the Health Center CSU is an exciting opportunity to teach and work with students toward their future careers. Teaching students about issues related to health, childhood development, nutrition, public awareness, psychology and social service are part of the responsibilities of a career in the Health Center. This program is specifically geared toward preparing students for positions in primary care, pediatrics and emergency room medicine. The goal of the Health Center CSU program is that each student graduates with one year of on the job training and a four year degree in Health Care Administration. Students learn about life-saving techniques as well as anatomy, pharmacology and physiology and basic business management skills.
Health Center CSU offers two major concentrations that enable students to select courses that further their medical knowledge and skills. The first concentration is focused on principles and methods of primary care administration and is offered by the Associate Degrees in Health Science. The second concentration is in hospital administration and is offered through the Bachelor of Science in Health Administration. Both concentrations have earned the approval of the American Association for Hospitality Management and the Commission on Accreditation for Hospital Education Programs.
In order to participate in the Health Center CSU program, students must first complete a basic chemistry course. Students then choose three courses in community health administration and basic biology and nutrition to begin their career in the field. In the Bachelor of Science in Health Administration, students choose three courses in public health, science and mathematics. In order to graduate, students must take all of the general education courses required for their majors, plus the required courses in community health administration.
When enrolling in a Health Center CSU program, students are required to complete prerequisite courses in the student's major before beginning classes. Prerequisites for most courses vary from student to student, but these prerequisites generally include math, physics, anatomy, English and biology. Some Health Center courses require prior written permission from a parent or legal guardian. Other requirements for Health Center CSU students to complete their degrees include completing three years of high school, as well as fulfilling course requirements with the Department of Health. These requirements can be found on the Center's website. Course requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Health Administration vary from student to student, while most require a course in science, mathematics, and health.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Administration is also a program offered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Like the Health Center CSU course, students must first complete a general education course and a minimum of two years of college. This coursework typically includes courses in health care management, statistics, ethics, government policy and practice, communication skills and accounting. After completing this degree program, students are required to take the standardized Test of English as a Foreign Language, which is part of the General Education Development category of exams for U.S. schools. The exam measures an individual's capability to comprehend and communicate about a wide variety of material in English.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Administration course covers all of the same material as the Health Center CSU course but requires much less coursework. Students choose to complete the course in three years, instead of four. However, students must still fulfill their General Education Development requirement. Some students choose to complete additional courses, but choose to do this after earning their degree.
